Holy Communion or simply the Lord's Supper is a staple of the Christian faith introduced by the Lord Jesus Christ Himself to be done in remembrance of Him. It involves the bread, which symbolizes his body, and the wine which symbolizes His blood.
The New Testament references the Lord Jesus's statements on Holy Communion in the main Bible verse that is used for communion and it comes from First Corinthians, and I will share that with you below.
The Main Holy Communion Scripture
The Apostle Paul and his Address To The Corinthian Church in 1 Cor 11:23-34
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: 24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. 27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. 30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.33 Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.34 And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
More Powerful Information On The Lord's Supper
In the Old Testament, we do see references to the Holy Communion ordinance through the Passover that took place, with the children of Israel, where they were instructed to eat a lamb which is basically a shadow of Christ being the Passover for us. And of course, you know, the death angel passed over.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Lamb and the Lord's death represents the passing over of death from the life of the believer and the entrance of the eternal life that God wrought in Christ Jesus by raising Him again from the dead.
Jesus' sacrifice has been outlined through the First Corinthians passage, and he encourages believers to do it celebrate often it, and as often as they do it to do it in remembrance of him. Why is that? Because it is in remembering what Jesus did, that we are able to be partakers of all that He promised. Remember it was through the entrance of sin that death came to man but now through His life, and dying on the cross, sin has been taken away and by faith in Him, we can have eternal life.
Forgiveness has been wrought by God through the Lord Jesus Christ by the power of the Holy Ghost! And Holy Communion is a remembrance of the work that Jesus did in coming to die to take away the sin of the world. Thank God that by faith we can be beneficiaries of His glorious work!
