Today we're going to share with you Bible verses about forgiveness.

These Scriptures talk about how to forgive and the importance of forgiving others. Forgiveness is fundamental to the Christian faith.

It is because of the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ, that we have forgiveness with God, because we know from Scripture that the wages of sin is death. The Lord Jesus Christ paid that penalty of death by dying on the cross.

And by faith in Him, God imputes that righteousness to us.

So Scripture says that we died with him, so that through Him the penalty was paid, and by him rising again from the dead, we now have life unto God, without the load of sin as a new creature that is made after the image of God.

What am I saying?

Just as Christ forgave us, even though it was hard and difficult, we should also forgive others.

Forgiveness may take some work on your part, but let the love of God in Christ Jesus be your example.

What Are Good Forgiveness Bible Verses?

Ephesians 4:31-32

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:12-13

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Proverbs 10:12

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

Now, when it comes to forgiveness, in our personal lives, sometimes we can have difficulties, but we need not have difficulties in this area because in the same way that God has forgiven us through Christ, we are to forgive others as an extension of the same grace that was given to us.

One of the ways that you can block up this grace is by having unforgiveness in your heart. Unforgiveness is not what God wills for you. It's not what He wants for you at all. The scripture in fact says that if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your heavenly Father forgive you.

Matthew 6:14-15 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Because you see, the life of the believer is a life of forgiveness. It's a life of redemption. It is a life of getting what you do not deserve. And so as you look at those who have hurt you, I want you to consider all the times that you have hurt the heart of God, even after being born again or even after coming to the knowledge of the truth. When you sin, it is a missing of the mark. It is a missing of the mark, in terms of what God expects of you. When others hurt you it's a missing of the mark in terms of what you expect of them. Now if God forgave you in Christ Jesus, why don't you forgive those who hurt you? Sometimes it's because you're not cognizant of the fact that God has forgiven you, even when you were yet a sinner. One of the reasons why people have a hard time forgiving, is that the other person has not come to ask for forgiveness and admit that they were wrong.

But the Bible says that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. We didn't come to him yet for forgiveness, but he died for us even before we came to Him - while we were yet sinners! This is the kind of grace that we have to extend to those who have hurt us.

Now don't get me wrong, everybody experiences emotional pain in different ways, and they may have hurt you in physical ways as well. But what God requires of us is forgiveness. We should maintain a heart or spirit of forgiveness towards those who have hurt us.

There have been times in my personal life when people have hurt me.

And I, by the grace of God, went to them and asked them for forgiveness for not coming to them sooner. It didn't mean that I was the one in fault, but the Lord wanted to use me to help them understand that this is what they can expect when they come to Christ; that they can overcome the hurt and the pains of the past, even when they weren't in the wrong. Sometimes you have to help people along because sometimes the people who hurt you don't even know that there was a situation that hurt you.

Romans 15:1-4 We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

I know it may be hard at times to believe that sometimes people don't even know that they've hurt us because they're so steeped in their own world that they don't even see the effect that they're having on other people. But, the Lord may lead you to bring the situation to them. Sometimes it's to help them see beyond themselves so that they can see the impact their actions have on others.

Learn To Heal The Sick In Jesus' Name Now

Matthew18:15-17  15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

You see, this work of forgiveness is not about you getting them to do what they're supposed to do, but it's about you doing what you're supposed to do, and leaving the vengeance to God. For in fact, Scripture says that Vengeance is Mine, says the Lord. And So forgiveness is a work of God. It's an extension of the grace of God through your life as a believer, and so this is not something that you as a human being can do. It is only something that you by the grace of God can do. And you can receive this grace to forgive others by meditating on the scriptures. When you meditate on the scriptures, you enter into the mind of Christ, when you enter into the mind of Christ you receive the grace of God to do what he has been able to do, and that's to forgive those who hurt him.

The Lord was on the cross and yet He said forgive them Lord for they know not what they do. Weren't they crucifying Him? Didn't they set out to kill him? Weren't they the ones putting Him to death, even when they knew that the man didn't commit any sin? Yes, they continued in their unjustified activity.

But He still forgave them!

And likewise you are to forgive even when you're not in wrong, and even when it hurts, and even when the people know that they're doing wrong, and they still do it.

You are to forgive. Why? Because God in Christ forgave you!
