Psalm 7 KJV

King James Version, Holy Bible

Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:

Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

Lord my God, If I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;

If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)

Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.

Arise, O Lord, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.

More Psalms Chapter 7 (Old Testament)

So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.

The Lord shall judge the people: judge me, O Lord, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.

Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.

10 My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.

11 God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.

12 If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15 He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will praise the Lord according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the Lord most high.

Psalm Chapter 7 Devotional

I enjoy reading Psalm 7 because here I can see the goodness of God and the delivering power of God.

Here I can see that the righteous God who revealed Himself in Christ Jesus is a good God.

  • I can see that He is a righteous judge.
  • I can see that all of His judgments are true.
  • I can see that he's a refuge to the righteous that the righteous can run and be safe.
  • I can see in this text that He is a God of justice.
  • I can see that his righteousness endures forever.
  • I can see that He is the one who is my defense and refuge against the enemy.

And in this scripture, we can see the perspective and the position that a righteous person should have in the face of persecution. Because persecution, the Bible says, shall be the allotment of those who live godly. It's not something that you can avoid.

But here we see, the Psalmist positioned himself under the mighty hand of God so that God can deliver him in the midst of persecution.

Is there somebody in your life that is treating you badly? Don't deliver evil for evil, instead, give good to them? Because the Lord is the one who will vindicate you from the wickedness of the wicked man.

God is Your Refuge

The Bible says that vengeance is the Lord's.

The Psalmist did good to the people who were rewarding him evil for the good that he did. And we also see that he asked the Lord to arise and deliver him.

How many times have you asked God to arise and deliver you? One of the things that we can be assured of is that we have a deliverer. We have a defender in the Lord, who is our defense. Psalm 7:10 says that my defense is of God who saves the upright in heart. Another Psalm says that no good thing with the Lord withold from him who walks uprightly.

And so we see that God is a righteous judge who most assuredly will deliver us.

People try to discredit us, and they try to malign us, but what we are to do is continue doing good; pray for those who persecute us, and trust God to be or judge and to make the judgments in our favor for we have put our trust in Him.
