Psalm 1 (Full Chapter and Verses)

Psalm 1, New King James Version, Old Testament

1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the [a]ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he [b]meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the [c]rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalm 1 Continued

The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

More On This Psalm

Psalm 1 is among the group of psalms in the Old Testament that speak about the human condition and what God does in and through us when we cry out to Him. The Lord Jesus Christ, in the New Testament, referenced the psalms many times for the spiritual truths inherent in them.

It isn't every day that you might get to read a psalm but rest assured that this one will speak to your human condition, your need for God, what God does for those who are faithful to Him, and much more.

The Secret To Being Blessed - Psalm Secrets

In Psalm 1, The Lord reveals the secret to being a blessed person. He reveals how the godly man or woman prospers irrespective of what evil people do. The way how the righteous prospers is by meditating on God's law day and night. It's in wanting to be in right relationship with God in every area of the righteous man's or woman's live that they are able to prosper.

Let me say it like this: The blessed man or woman is blessed in his or her life because he or she meditates on the law of the Lord.

The ungodly are in stark contrast to this. Psalm 1 shares that we are not to be fellowshipping with mockers and scoffers. Why is this? Because they do, live and have their hearts set contrary to the law of God.

And if we fellowship with them we may take on some of their ways. There is a stark contrast to the way that ungodly people live from the way that Godly people do.

The ungodly person cannot stand in the judgment nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. Their lifestyle is contrary to God and thus void of the uprightness and true blessing that He gives. God brings a steep distinction between the righteous man and the wicked man.

True happiness, peace, and prosperity are for the godly man or woman, not for the ungodly man or woman. The way of the wicked leads only to destruction.

But, God watches over the righteous and His ears are open to their prayers (1 Peter 3:12)

Great God - Great Blessing

I can't tell you how many times in my life, when all the chips were down that God came through for me and helped me. There was one time when I thought that I would be evicted from my apartment, and I found myself praying all night because everything was out of my control.

Have you ever felt like that? Like everything was out of your control? Well, I sure did. But, as many human ordeals go, God came through for me in high fashion.

As Psalm 1 says, "for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish."

A huge snowstorm came and stopped the eviction. I was later able to acquire the funds needed to pay rent and remain in my apartment.

But, had it not been for God I would have been down and out but God came through for me and He will for you as you put your trust in Him.

Your Blessing, Our Prayer

Our prayer for you is that as you read Psalm 1 and other Chapters in the book of psalms that the Lord will speak to your heart and give you the reassurance and hope that you need to keep on pressing through, not looking at how the wicked may seemingly prosper, until God brings you to the place He promised you.

We pray that this rendering of Psalm 1 has been a blessing to you by the power of The Holy Spirit in Jesus' Name. May blessing and prosperity abound in your life to the praise of His Glory in Jesus' Name.

We serve such an awesome God!

Remember, the righteous person is blessed because of his or her meditation on the law of the Lord.
