Today we have bible verses about the resurrection of Jesus as well as teaching and proof of the resurrection of The Lord Jesus from the dead. Christ's Resurrection is foundational to the Christian faith for without Jesus being resurrected from the dead, our faith is in vain because without the resurrection of Christ, there is no newness of life and no change in our state as human beings from the sinful nature into God-given nature.

Summary of Jesus' Resurrection and Significance

  • The resurrection story is the account of Jesus Christ rising from the dead after being crucified on the cross and buried in the tomb.
  • Without the resurrection, there is no redemption of the body.
  • Jesus was resurrected three days after his execution by crucifixion at the hands of Roman authorities.
  • When Jesus rose from the dead, he confirmed his identity as the Son of God and his work of atonement, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation. His resurrection assures us that our future is safe and secure.
  • According to the Gospels, Jesus was executed by crucifixion at the hands of Roman authorities, and resurrected three days later.
  • The miraculous resurrection gave assurance to Jesus' disciples.
  • The resurrection of Jesus confirms that God accepted Christ's sacrifice for sin on the cross and gives us access to a right relationship with Him.
  • The Resurrection Proves that Jesus is the Messiah.

Without the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, there is no true salvation. And so, the resurrection of the dead is key to the Christian faith and the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, in particular, it is in fact, central to what Christians believe.

And we've got good news!

Jesus Rose From The Dead, Just As He Said!

The Bible says that is by the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus was raised from the dead. He went from death to life.

The Bible says in Revelation that death shall be swallowed up with life.

Jesus' resurrection from the dead is central to healing and it is central to forgiveness of sins because the resurrection implies that a change has taken place from the old carnal man to the new spiritual man and from the old earthly man to the new man from heaven.

What Does The Resurrection of The Lord Jesus Teach Us?

Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

The new creature is the Lord from heaven. And so in this short Bible study, we're going to look at several Bible verses that have to deal with the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. And we're going to be looking at his resurrection as a shadow of our own personal resurrections, and bodily resurrections.

The apostle Paul, in the book of Thessalonians, says something very powerful. He says that we shall not all sleep (this is a reference to death) and he says that we shall be changed.  This particular scripture is used by many believers to show the rapture of the church and this is 100%true. It is also a picture of the resurrection that will take place for believers because the mortal body shall put on immortality as the scripture says, This corrupt body shall put on incorruption (1 Corinthians 15)

And so the redemption of the body is to clothe us with the eternal life of God so that we'll be like Him.

And, yes, we have eternal life now because of what Jesus has done in His death and resurrection even before the redemption of our physical body, but just as the scripture says that every word should be confirmed or established by two or three witnesses we've got to get the body involved. And this is in fact what the Lord does when He causes us to be like Him.

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

What Is Eternal Life?

Believers in Christ have eternal life right now. Because to know Him and to know Jesus Christ He said, is eternal life. (John 17)

John 17:3 3And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

We Shall Be Changed!

But Paul says, it doesn't appear what we shall be. But it says that when He appears we shall be like Him. This means that the body has got to be changed to be like His glorified body. This is the resurrection. This is death being swallowed up by life, as the scripture says. So this is a bodily resurrection.

The scripture says that as believers we were already raised with Him, and we sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3-5). This is the spiritual resurrection.

But this resurrection that is coming is going to be a bodily resurrection. And every believer by the grace of God is supposed to be able to partake of this bodily resurrection because it's for those who are dead in Christ, and for those who are alive in Him. If you look at it from 1Corinthians 15 you will see that it says that we shall all be changed (resurrected).

Let's look at it here:1Corinthians15:51-53.

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Remember the resurrection from the dead.

Also, 1John 3:2-3 talks about when He shall appear that we shall be like Him.

Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

And because of this, because of our subsequent resurrection, we are to purify ourselves. The Bible says that every man that has this hope in Him (that we will be like Him) purified himself, even as He is pure. That's first John three, verse three. Let's look at it here.

1 John 3:3 And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

So the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ is a foreshadowing of the resurrection of the church, both living and those who are dead. The Bible says that those who are dead shall rise first, and then those who are alive shall be caught up to meet Him in the air. Some people doubt this, but the Lord Jesus Himself mentioned this in a covert way (Proverbs 25:2)for our glory in John 11: 25-26

23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Notice Jesus mentions the dead in Christ being resurrected first and those who are alive being resurrected secondly, when He says that they shall never die, for to live forever requires the redemption of the body or resurrection. This is the change in 1 Thess. This is just as The Apostle mentions it in 1 Thessalonians.

And we know from scripture that every word is to be established in the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses. So there you have it.

And so we will put off mortality in this resurrection and a put on immortality. And these are miraculous events that the scriptures talk about, that will, in fact, take place, when the Lord Jesus calls the church, unto Himself according to Revelation 12:5

This is what is described in First Thessalonians. This is the resurrection of the church which will happen concurrently with the catching away of the church to be with the Lord.

It's important to note here that just as the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead on the third day so too the church will be resurrected before the church ascends in the rapture. If you recall, Jesus went through the resurrection from the dead. And then of course, he forbade the women to touch him, because He said that He had not yet ascended. So He was already resurrected before He ascended.

This is why the Bible says that we shall all be changed. It's because before there's ascension, to the holy place of God in heaven, there must be resurrection or redemption of the body, because God will only permit that which is holy to exist in His presence. So the holiness of God requires the resurrection of the physical body, because the resurrection of the physical body is required for God to be all in all.

Scriptures About The Lord Jesus' Resurrection

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 King James Version

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

1 Corinthians 15:51-53 King James Version

51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

1 John 3:2-3

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
