The Scripture For Today comes from Daniel 10:10-14

10 And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands.11 And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling.12 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words.13 But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.

Persistence in Prayer and the Power of God’s Timing

Daniel 10:10–14 reveals the profound truth that spiritual breakthroughs often involve unseen battles. The angelic messenger illustrates that even before visible change occurs, God’s plan is already at work in the spiritual realm. Daniel’s persistence in prayer demonstrates faith, endurance, and alignment with God’s purposes, showing that God responds even when delays or opposition arise.

1. The Touch That Strengthens

Verse 10: “And, behold, a hand touched me, which set me upon my knees…” The Hebrew word נָגַע (naga‘) means to touch or strike. This divine touch symbolizes God’s empowerment for the challenges ahead. Even before the full revelation, God prepares and strengthens His people.

Application for today:
Expect God’s empowering touch in your situation. Ask the Lord Jesus to strengthen and prepare you for what lies ahead, even if you cannot yet see the full answer.

2. Beloved and Called for Understanding

Verse 11: “O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee…” The Hebrew term אָהוּב (’ahuv) means beloved. God’s plan often involves calling and equipping those He loves to receive insight and wisdom. Daniel’s role is pivotal because God’s plan requires faithful understanding.

Application for today:
Know that your diligence in prayer and obedience positions you to receive God’s wisdom. The Lord Jesus calls you “beloved” and equips you to understand His plans.

3. Persistence in Prayer Activates God’s Response

Verse 12: “For from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard…” The Hebrew שָׁמַע (shama‘) means to hear or listen. This emphasizes that God hears prayers from the first day they are earnest and heartfelt. Persistence aligns our actions with His plan, even when results are delayed.

Application for today:
Continue steadfast in prayer and alignment with God’s will. Trust that the Lord Jesus has already heard your petitions and is orchestrating the answer, even if it is delayed.

4. Spiritual Opposition and the Need for Divine Help

Verse 13: “But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael…came to help me.” The Hebrew word מַלְכּוּת (malkuth) means kingdom or authority. This shows that God’s plan may involve spiritual opposition, and breakthrough often requires divine assistance. Michael, a chief angel, represents God’s intervention in times of delay or resistance.

Application for today:
Recognize that delays or obstacles may not be failures but part of spiritual processes. Call on the Lord Jesus to intervene and provide the help needed to fulfill His plan.

5. Understanding Comes in God’s Timing

Verse 14: “Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days…” The Hebrew תְּבוּנָה (tevunah) means understanding, insight. God’s timing for revelation is perfect; understanding comes when one is ready and aligned with His purpose. Patience and faith are crucial as God unfolds His plan.

Application for today:
Be patient and attentive for God’s timing. Seek understanding through prayer and reflection, trusting that the Lord Jesus will reveal insight in His perfect time.
